Leading a responsible and sustainable business

At Birmingham Specialities Ltd, we take pride in being a responsible and sustainable business. As one of the UK’s leading providers of metal presswork and stamping and a subsidiary of Indutrade, we endeavor to build long-term value through technology and sustainable solutions that enhance our own and our customers’ competitiveness.

Our Sustainability Vision

As one of the UK’s leading providers of precision presswork, offering a comprehensive list of services from complex sub assembly work to our p-clip manufacturing, we aim to continuously develop in a way that’s economically, environmentally and socially responsible. Our sustainability strategy represents a shared commitment whereby the collective businesses within the Indutrade Group constantly develop our sustainability strategies, focusing on people, profitable growth, and the environment.

We define success as sustainable profitability and growth that benefits individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. That’s why we utilise a strategic framework to summarise our areas of focus for sustainable development and have defined targets that we follow up. Materiality analysis is the core framework used to identify the ustainability topics that are the most important to our companies and the Group, based on the expectations of stakeholders and impact.

Long-Term Objectives

Birmingham Spec takes a long-term perspective on entrepreneurship, while sustainability is an important aspect of the decentralised business model we rely on. We maintain active ownership via our companys’ Boards of Directors, and we always aim to ensure that aspects of sustainability are integrated into their strategies and business models.

Indutrade has also joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), which serves as the foundation for our environmental efforts. We promise to work with the Global Compact’s ten principles for sustainable development in the four areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.

Our Code of Conduct

When it comes to integrity, sustainability, and ethical business conduct, we hold ourselves to high standards. We care about the sustainability performance of our suppliers and business partners, and we wish to build close ties with partners that share our business philosophy.

Indutrade’s Code of Conduct is our policy for sustainable entrepreneurship, outlining who we want to be, how we want to be seen, and guiding how to continue being a responsible and sustainable business.

The following principles guide our operations:

  • Legal compliance: Our work abides with the country’s laws
  • Ethical business practices: Our objective is to operate in an ethical way, and we will follow all legal business practises
  • Meaningful stakeholder dialogue:  We put at the centre of our operations the dialogue with our employees, business partners and stakeholders who affect, and are affected by, our operations.
  • Employee responsibility: Our employees are to comply with our principles and accept accountability for their own actions as well as Indutrade’s products and services.

We recognise that building a business where sustainability is ingrained in our operations requires a collaborative effort and urge our partners to follow the Code of Conduct for Business Partners of the Indutrade Group as well.

Sustainability Governance

Sustainability is a mandated agenda topic at the board meetings. This is how we ensure that we adhere to the highest standards and continue to evolve and develop our strategy.

Primarily, sustainability governance occurs via:

  • Code of Conduct, policies, and guidelines
  • Board meetings
  • Sustainability reporting platform
  • Network meetings, training, and e-learning

The Board at the Group level maintains involvement in climate issues by approving policies, strategies, acquisitions, and possible divestments. Each year, we also conduct, again at the Group level, an in-depth strategic risk analysis.
