We provide our range of engineering services to an array of different industries. Applications of our precision components can be found in:
A metal press contains a flatbed and also contains a pressing rod or ram that is hydraulically, mechanically or pneumatically controlled. To press the flat surface into shape, you first insert parts of the metal tooling into the press and then, the bottom of the tool is fastened to the bed of the worktop and the top of the tool to the rod or ram.
Once the tool is securely fastened and the flat sheet of metal you wish to press into a new shape is placed between the two, many tonnes of pressure is pushed on the tools to shape the flat metal into its desired shape. Depending on the specifications, a various amount of pressure is applied to the metal to stretch or bend to its final shape.
Metal pressings are designed to quickly and repeatedly produce perfect copies. At Birmingham Specialities, our vast selection of metal pressings and precision components is what sets us apart from our competitors. From our well-placed, centrally-located Birmingham workshop, we have the experience, an in-house tooling design and manufacturing equipment and time served to develop high-quality pressings in a wide range of materials and have done so since we opened our doors for numerous industry sectors.
s of the same product and the metal is pressed while cold, which makes for a strong and durable finished product.
The team at Birmingham Specialities manufacture pressings in a wide range of metals, including aluminium and stainless steel, which are explained below.
One of the materials we use is aluminium, which has a density of around 2.6 to 2.8 g per cm³, which is approximately a third of the density of steel. Aluminium is used in many aviation applications where lightweight material and strength are paramount.
The aviation and aerospace industry regularly use pressed aluminium parts for their airframes, such as wings, fuselage and the undercarriage, so you can only imagine how vital our work would be for those industries!
A lot of our materials are also environmentally-friendly, long-lasting, durable and recyclable, which is great news in this day and age when looking after our planet is becoming more and more important for everyone.
Only 5% of that energy is required to recycle the product and many items you use on a daily basis are made out of aluminium, such as canned drinks, car wheels, phones and laptops, so the same goes for the materials that we use too.
Metal is super versatile to use and work with, especially in the manufacturing industry. As an example, here are a few things you can do with aluminium during the manufacturing process:
So you can understand why aluminium is one of our first-choices in materials to use for presses!

Pressed items can quickly and easily be visually checked when in use for damage and can be repaired easily.
Through using the latest technology, we can efficiently fabricate tooling for your desired pressing applications. The guarantee that every pressed item is easily manufactured and accurate makes for a cost-effective solution.
Pressed steel is one of the hardest wearing materials and shape formation available today, but it’s also easily worked with. Our pressing machinery uses many tons of hydraulic pressure to form your desired shape.
